PE and Sport Premium
Sports Premium Grant
The government has been providing additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2016-2017 through to 2020 to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.
This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – will be allocated to primary school headteachers. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.
The purpose of this funding is to spend the additional funding on improving the provision of PE and sport within schools. Headteachers have the freedom to choose how this will be implemented within their school. Our attached PE and Sports Premium Statement will inform you how we are spending this funding.
How this funding is being used at St Martin’s C E Primary School:
This year St Martin’s C E Primary School will receive a sports premium amount of £17,178. This will be paid to us in the autumn term.
At St Martin’s C E Primary School we feel it is important to encourage pupils to lead healthy and active lifestyles. We have therefore decided to spend this year’ funding on directly increasing participation in sport and extending sporting opportunities. The funding will be spent on:
- To use CPD opportunities for teachers – through both PSD and Create Development to raise the standard of PE lessons.
- To use specialist sports coaches (PSD) to deliver high quality PE lessons. To purchase equipment for all pupils to access during playtime and lunchtimes. To ensure that this equipment that is accessible to all pupils of different abilities.
- To use sports specialist coaches from PSD to deliver sports specific PE lessons, such as: Dance, Gym, Games and general Physical Education.
How will we monitor the impact of this funding:
The school will be monitoring both the physical development & engagement levels of pupils through teacher observation and an assessment system and quality assurance measures.
The school will be offering a variety of after school sports clubs and will be closely monitoring the attendance to ensure maximum take up.
